Becoming a member:

Membership is a very important issue here at The Centre at Highland. While we believe that all born
again believers are a part of the Church of God, we also see the importance of belonging to a local
church body.
 Any one desiring to unite as a member of the church can do so in one of four ways:
1. Come forward when the membership invitation is extended during our services.
2. Make Bishop Powell aware.
3. Fill out a communication card.
A registration form will be given to you for sake of accountability. It is just that simple. We
welcome all people regardless of race, religious background, age or financial status.

Baptism at The Centre:

Baptism (Baptiz o in Hebrew/Greek) means to immerse, submerge, wash with water in token of
purification from sin and from spiritual pollution.
Baptism in the olden days was and still is a public declaration that the Christian, thus giving his
testimony for Christ, is willing to die for Christ. To baptize in its general signification means to be
identified with, where by all believers are baptized and are identified spiritually into the body of Christ
and the church.
10 Reasons to be Baptized
1. Because Jesus commanded it. (Matt. 28:19)
2. Because Jesus modeled it. (Matt. 3:13-15)
3. Because baptism is coupled with faith and linked to salvation in the teaching of Jesus. “He who
believes and is baptized shall be saved.” (Mark 16:16)
4. Because in baptism we mark the formal beginning of a new life in Christ. (Romans 6:4)
5. Because in baptism we demonstrate our hope in the resurrection of the righteous. (Romans 6:5)
6. Because being born of water and the Spirit is essential to entering Christ’s kingdom of salvation.
7. Because in baptism we are “raised with Him” through faith in the operation of God, i.e., baptism
demonstrates in the physical realm our faith about what God is doing in the spiritual realm
when we are baptized. (Colossians 2:11-12)
8. Because we are baptized in the name (by the authority) of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
(Matt. 28:19)
9. Because we are baptized in (or into) the name of the Lord and King Jesus. (Acts 8:19)

A Toolbox for Loving People Well
