November 4, 1962, in Washington D.C. Lady Denise Powell, the eldest of seven children was born to Robert and Dorothy Stevenson. Her father’s employment in the United States Air Force meant a lot of exciting and different places to call home during her childhood. She didn’t know it then but God was setting her up for His master plan for her life! Even as a young girl, Denise liked to have things in order. At the age of 18, she gave her life to the Lord and He has been ordering her steps ever since.
After graduating from Roseville High School, in Northern California, Denise joined the Air Force and was station at Norton Air Force Base, San Bernardino, CA. During this time she met and married Philip Powell. Denise knew that along with being a newly-wed came the instant responsibility and challenges of being a mother to four children ( three boys and a girl ). Not long after their wedding God elevated her husband to pastorate. God was building her faith in Him. All at once, she was a new wife, parent and Pastor’s wife. A few years later God bless the Powell’s with another daughter to love, Miss Kaylee. Today, the family has increase with addition of two grandchildren Noa-Lynn and Brealon in her life. God was preparing her for such a time as this, to be a guiding light to all the lives that she touches.
Before retiring from the Air Force, she completed her Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Studies at San Bernardino Valley College. She later completed her Bachelor of Arts in Human Development at California Baptist University. Her faith in Christ led her to complete accredited Bible Institute Course while a member of the New Life Missionary Baptist Church and later ordained a Minister, and most recently become an Elder at the Centre at Highland Church.
While being a wife and mom she has been employed at the Superintendent of Schools as a substitute Para-educator and Teacher in Special Education for nine years. Lady Denise is an Ordained Elder and has served alongside her husband in ministry in many capacities; from church secretary to women’s ministry, to Sunday school director, and many more roles in between. Most recently Lady Denis has been given oversight of several ministries as she serves as team leader over “In reach” ministries.
One of Mrs. Powell’s passions has been helping people and the expression of that passion has allowed her to do some ministry and service outside her church boundaries. Currently Denise spends time helping people from all walks of life to feel and look better. She has partnered with a well-respected multi-nation corporation designed to help others be their best and raise their confidence through personal care. Her efforts have garnered recognition and awards but most all has allowed her to represent Christ in the marketplace of daily life.
